I received a SOS note from one of my Toledo talent.
She needed advice on making a move to Nashville
(her singing career dream) and was overwhelmed
by life, bills, kids, work and well...life.
Here was my reply. I hope it will inspire others.
The Nashville Move:
Microcosm!
Take care of the small things while setting your game plan.
Goal 1: Budget
Goal 2: Share your plans with the family
Goal 3: Network with Nashville
Goal 4: Start planning where in Nashville you'd like to live
Goal 5: Start to let go of Toledo
Goal 6: Scrimp and save
Goal 7: MOVE!!!
Let's start with each one:
1. It will probably cost around $5 grand to make a comfortable move. Half of that for a hectic one. If you take on a weekend part time job and DON'T touch that money...you will have that before THIS Christmas!
2. Your kids a pain? Wait til they learn that you have goals beyond their own. They will straighten up soon enough when they have to toe the proverbial financial line for YOUR dreams.
3. There are chat rooms (like Music and sports teams) with people from Nashville. JOIN THEM. You will be a newbie, but in less than 2 months you will make friends and they will have the best advice about Nashville than you could ever find on your own as quickly. Yes...even some date chat rooms have some nice and helpful men (who want ..can I say it? Friendship!!!) from that area. (I have a date/friends site on www.creativetalentworkshop.com that is FREE and covers NAshville and the surrounding area!)
4. Google Earth can show you the areas of town from above. So you can see the lay of the land. You can also pick up area maps from Realtors.
5. The worst thing you can do is to get too involved with groups or projects before you want to move somewhere. It makes it harder to let go. Don't burn bridges, but plan NOT to look back any time soon.
6. Beyond part time jobs and the like, start to get rid of cable or satellite TV and any other "luxury". When it hurts and cramps your style... Your purpose to move becomes real and tangible.
7. Move!
Remember I am just offering advice.
Prayer to God will make things happen and successfully fall into place.
Is God smaller than your dreams? Your move?
I think not!
Things happen because it is time for things to happen.
