From Kelly Donica (Jordan's mother)
I wanted to share with you some fantastic news about Jordan and his continuing journey in the theatre world.
Last night the Encore Association, which is an Association of 11 Community Theatres in Marion, Hendricks, Hamilton and Johnson counties, held their annual awards banquet. This is basically Indianapolis ’s version of the “Tony Awards” – as awards are given out in about 30 categories (such as “Best Actor in a Comedy”, “Best Musical Production”, etc, etc). It is very prestigious among the local theatre community members to be nominated, not to mention to win.
Last night, completely unbeknownst to him beforehand, Jordan was named the 2007 Recipient of the “Jean Cones Memorial Scholarship”. This is given annually by the Encore Association to a young person who over the past theatre season has demonstrated a “commitment to excellence in the theatre and to educational activities pertaining to theatrical arts”. It is a monetary award given “to continue their artistic training”.
Jordan was chosen based upon his nomination being submitted by the Director of “Jesus Christ Superstar” in which Jordan played the part of “Apostle James” this summer. In recognizing Jordan ’s contributions this past year, the Encore Association noted that Jordan had “committed himself to several local theatres in the past year and shown a passion both on and offstage for theatre and theatre arts”. He was called “one of the most talented young people in the Indianapolis area”.
Here are his theatre credits from the 2006-07 season that were recognized last evening:
August 2007 – “Godspell Junior”- Jesus – Buck Creek Players ( Indianapolis )
November – December 2006 – “Here’s Love” – Marine/Policemen/Ensemble/Soloist - The Belfry (Noblesville)
February – March 2007 – “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” – Benjamin – Artist’s Studio (Fishers)
June 2007 – “Jesus Christ Superstar” – Apostle James/Herod Dancer – Wayne Township Community Theatre ( Wayne Township )
August 2007 – “Schoolhouse Rock Live” – Assistant Stage Manager – The Belfry (Noblesville)
September 2007 – “The Dining Room” – Props Manager – The Belfry (Noblesville)
I cannot tell you how much an honor receiving this award is for Jordan as there are MANY talented young people in Indianapolis and the surrounding counties. He and I were thrilled – and I am just so very proud of him.
I want to thank you for your various roles in helping Jordan on his “life journey”. Many of you have supported him by coming to various shows – others simply by “listening” to his dreams and goals. Personally, I have little doubt that he will “make it” to the big White Way ! He’s just so determined – and slightly talented thanks to gifts from God. I just wanted to share this with each of you.
